The potential of Asian countries have grown from mediocre to an alarming threat to oust already developed countries such as the United States and United Kingdom from their economic leading positions. The culture and the rich variety of resources also contribute to the growing investments in the each country.

The continent already has its own list of developed countries including Singapore, South Korea, Japan, China and United Arab Emirates (UAE) among others. These countries have been leading the world with unique characteristics and assisting western developed countries in fulfilling global causes and implementing international projects.

If Asian countries send their people to seek opportunities in the western part of the world, a lot of expatriates also reside in Asia, either building and developing their own business or working in Asian companies.

The rise of foreign firms opening in Asia and the increasing number of their population also increases the demand for luxury homes which can cater to their needs. The industry is also the shining beacon of economy for the higher end market.

Being able to live or work in areas where there are posh condominium give one an air of elegance and sophistication. It is an accepted fact that urbanization and development paves way for industrialization and modernity.

Singapore is an example. The city-island country has been recognized as one of the most developed countries in the world. With millions of expatriates living within its walls, condominium units are easily occupied even before it can be completely constructed. Pre-selling of apartments is rampant with developers piling public offices for building permits.

According to the review conducted by the Peterson Group Bespoke Condominiums and Residences, specializing luxury home rentals for expatriates for Singapore, the market has increased by 10 – 12% since last year. Similar demands are experienced in Hong Kong and Tokyo, Japan as well as in developing cities, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Jakarta, Indonesia.

The cheap price of luxury homes compared to that of developed countries also accounts to the growing attraction of foreigners to Asian extravagant housings. Cities also promise expansion, enabling developers to increase the average size of condominiums, making them more appealing to expatriates. The number of large-residential housing around the prime cities is rising.

However, this growth and obvious boost to the economic sector and the strengthening of international ties is not without complaints. May humanitarian and environmental organizations are calling the unending urbanization exploitation of nature and impractical use of resources. Yet, the industry doesn’t seem to have any plans of stopping.

We all know that living in the city and even in some sprawling towns has become a dangerous proposition in terms of health risks due to pollution and, in spite of all the efforts done to mitigate it or address it through clean-air laws, the fight has not been quite successful in many regions. The best that the individual can do is to take some simple steps to minimize the aggravation that pollution brings, steps which can be easily done or resorted to at minimal or no cost at all.

1.    Minimize exposure as much you can

We all know that staying inside an air-conditioned vehicle does not remove the risk of breathing polluted air. Knowing the parts of the city that are most-highly polluted and avoiding them by taking alternative routes will help. For those who take regular exercises outdoors, the best time to do them would be early morning when the dust of the city has settled and pollution is at the lowest level. Better still, if a city has a wide park or a beachfront, doing it there would help reduce breathing toxic gases or aerosols in the air. The best option, especially for highly-polluted cities is to do indoor exercises. In many condos, gyms as are common fixtures which residents can patronize to their advantage.

2.    Use ionizers or other dust-and-pollution-reducing gadgets

An ionizer creates a less-polluted indoor condition by electrically charging dusts and aerosols and allowing them to attract to one another and settling down, thus, reducing the amount of pollutants in the air. The secret is to sweep or vacuum the dust that has fallen in order that it does not return into the atmosphere or accumulate in beds, furniture, curtains and other fixtures. Filters for air-conditioners can also help to reduce the pollution as long as they are regularly maintained or replaced.

3.    Utilize inexpensive means to minimize exposure to pollution while preserving your comfort

Using air-conditioners, particularly at home, can be a very expensive proposition. Condos can become heat sinks if they face the east or the west and catch solar energy at least three or four hours daily.  Most dwellers would normally use air-conditioners to fend off the heat. While using air-conditioners may be a good way of keeping much of the heat and city pollution out; an ordinary electric fan can also do the same trick particularly at night when it is cooler. An air-curtain will serve to keep the dust and pollution from reaching your room just as an exhaust fan throws away hot air inside a room. You can even save by using one electric fan as a portable air-curtain by simply aiming it toward an open window during times when your aircon is off.

4.    Use dust masks outdoors

During times when spending time outdoors cannot be avoided, use dust masks or Ninja masks. Although it might seem awkward or unfashionable, remember you are responsible for your own health. What people think of how you look is the least of your worries when it comes to the danger of pollution to our health and well-being.

5.    Learn to breathe properly

One of the most neglected steps in reducing the effects of pollution is proper breathing. Surprisingly, majority of people do not know how to do this while the ancient Chinese learned the technique of proper breathing for health as well as martial arts purposes thousands of years ago. Strengthening our organs starts with providing them with sufficient oxygen, not just exercising the muscles that operate them, for instance, the heart muscles.

Here is the basic procedure: One, inhale deeply for four seconds in order to supply the lungs with as much oxygen as you can. Two, hold the air inside for six seconds to allow the oxygen to reach as many lung cells as it can. Three, exhale for eight seconds in order expel as much carbon dioxide and, perhaps, other toxic gases you may have in your lungs. Ironically, smokers can gain as much good from this as non-smokers because the last step allows them to expel more toxic gases out of their lungs than those who do not.

We need not be helpless victims of city pollution; so, think of how to reduce its effects through these simple steps. The Peterson Group Bespoke Condominium and Residences operates in Indonesia, helping people become aware of the practical ways of living in the city through practical reviews such as this article.

Led them to live a life that provides them the extra cash to buy condos, cars or travel places. And since, many of these people can take their work wherever they go, they can be as mobile and as creative in their travels as they can be.

However, there are pitfalls to working at home which we must avoid. Here are a few:

1.    Lack of discipline

Most people who never had a single day of military training or grew up without meaningful parental guidance find it hard to stick to a regular regimen and become an efficient home-based worker. A lot of young IT workers who spend much time gaming all-day-long and all-night-long while neglecting their work or their potential to do serious and productive work. The temptation of enjoying your time in front of the PC watching movies or playing is by far the greatest bane to modern living, one which has not been sufficiently addressed by parents, teachers, pastors or government people. And why should or how could they when the individual is left entirely on his or her own to do whatever he or she wants at home. Hence, the spate of young people who get sick because they lead a sedentary life and rarely eat enough or do physical exertion.

2.    Lack of supervision

Much of the work done at home allows great freedom for people to do practically what they want to do with minimal supervision. While the quality of the work output can be controlled to a great extent, the time and the manner that the work is done is generally beyond the supervision of others. Some may pass on their work to others in order to avoid working and to spend more time on other things – again, gaming or gallivanting. Although some people may have the knack for submitting quality work while doing this, they end up still lacking the discipline and maturity to do serious and hard work for better opportunities in the future. In a sense, modern society is breeding lazy people whose main occupation is to avoid work at all cost. What that will do to the future generations can be a shuddering thought.

3.    Stunted creativity

Genuine creativity can only be bred in an atmosphere of intellectual and cultural exchange. Making a good drawing or painting can be learned easily on YouTube nowadays. So it is with playing a guitar or drums. However, one cannot be a truly great musician without playing along with others. Developing creativity requires interacting with others. Working at home can deprive us of the vital ideas and insightful inputs that genuine social interaction provides in the real world and not in the virtual world.

Living to your first ever condo unit will surely give you so much delight, and your family and friends will be very pleased to find out about your place. Your mind may be filled with future plans in purchasing your stuff and arranging your own home, but The Peterson Group wants you to remember that everything has to be planned carefully, don't let over-excitement exhaust your mind.

You're maybe feeling incredibly excited right now because you're finally getting your personal space. You can now do anything that makes you happy while spending more time with yourself. Seeing your personalized layout in your unit will also provide you a feeling of self-fulfillment. Picturing yourself and your lifestyle within your unit is recommended to help you start your plans.

If you're the kind of individual who always invite guests, then you definitely need to place additional seats or tables in your unit for them, and a 4-6 dining set might be ideal for that special need. You should also consider buying some multi-purpose furniture to save space in your place.

Establishing a budget is also your priority and you have to stick with it. You should make the most out of your money, and buy items that are long-lasting and durable. It’s also wise to create an inventory of your things; jot down whatever you like to put in your unit along with the things you currently have, including appliances and furniture. Plan carefully where to put your new things and make sure that each of which will have a place in your home.

You can also do a Do-It-Yourself house improvement project. If you're confident enough to do the job, then you can save lots of cash while sticking to your own financial budget because you don't need to hire a professional. Visit some hardware stores near you to purchase different tools you need in renovating your unit. However, if you think you can't do the job, contact an expert beforehand so that you can save a lot of time and effort.

Consider creating the most workable layout for your unit because you need to make sure that you'll be very relaxed and comfortable in your place. You may also add a corner in your home where you're able to perform your urgent office works.

And since it is your own place, you can use your own favorite color and fashion while decorating your home. If you prefer light colors, then it'll be ideal for your unit because light colored walls are the simplest and most commonly used wall colors nowadays according to The Peterson Group. For small spaces, light colors are perfect since they are able to make your unit feel bigger and more open. A well-placed mirror can also help give the appearance of more space. But if you like a different color, it's up to you, but make sure the blending of colors will still give you and your visitors the feeling of comfort and a “refreshing aura”.

You must understand the rules and regulations of the condominium before doing some changes in your unit. The floor plan of your renovation project should be signed and sealed by a Licensed Interior Designer or Licensed Architect. The administrator of the condominium may also require a construction bond that is refundable after the unit renovation.

The Peterson Group wants you to enjoy and love this change in your life. Find happiness in the new height of your place and the tall buildings around you. Living on your own can be very comfortable since you’re not dependent on anyone and you don’t feel any sense of control. Sometimes, it’s better to be alone because it gives you some time to be who you really are.

Four main factors determine our potential for catching disease. Understanding these essential factors will help us determine the best solution to our health problems. These factors are:

1.Environment
The environment is a neutral factor by itself; meaning, the environment nurtures life according to complex mechanisms which allow living organisms to adapt as well as to cope with the challenges to survival. Many believe that organisms have the innate ability to overcome these obstacles and develop defensive and offensive mechanisms in order to reproduce their kind and as well as improve their chances to survive. Drastic improvements, as presumed, would lead to organisms evolving, hence, the theory. On the other hand, slight adaptation behaviors or steps involve using available resources to allow a species to survive without necessarily evolving into new species.

Humans react to the environment in intricate ways which can be further complicated by the fact that they themselves have now the capacity to mindlessly alter or intelligently redesign the environment. The race to reach Mars is one extreme example of this human capacity which is fraught with so many variables and unknowns.

But we do not have to go far to realize that what we have done to the environment has degraded its capacity to sustain healthful living. Think about the pollution and destruction that our ecosystems or global systems (coastal areas, river systems, forests, atmosphere and ozone layer) have suffered from our eagerness to harness resources without regard to natural processes?

How we react to the environment that has in turn reacted to our own activities determines our vulnerability to diseases. How can we not develop respiratory diseases or lung cancer with all the toxins we release in the air? How can we not suffer dietary problems when the food we eat has been devitalized through so much processing? How can we grow nourishing food when we do not return what the soil needs to keep it well-nourished as well? In short, we make the environment what it is and, in return, it makes us what we are now – prone to diseases.

2.Emotional condition
Many unresolved emotional issues can lead to the disruption of the functions of the body, particularly the immunity system. When people blame their “low resistance” for their sickness, they are actually claiming the fact that the immunity system is the first and last line of defense in the body’s battle with the environment and the deficiencies and diseases it brings. A person who is grieving is considered “depressed” since that emotional condition is not the normal condition conducive to healthy living. Yes, we can accept that a certain dose of sadness and sorrow can bring about beneficial changes in our lives. But when such moments cause us not to eat properly, not to get enough rest for recovery or not to do physical exertion, the body will start dropping its defenses and becomes easy prey to diseases. The wise King Solomon gave this vital medical advice: A cheerful heart is good medicine; but a sad face dries up the bones.

3.Unmitigated stresses
Many people go through days and days of unrelenting stress and end up with hypertension, especially people who live in the crowded cities. One related case was the medical findings on many young American soldiers in their late teens and early twenties developing cardiovascular disease during the Korean War. Not only does stress cause systemic ailments, it can also affect the mental condition of those who have no coping mechanisms for releasing the stress.

Today, the popularity of music therapy and massage therapy has provided immense relief to those who regularly make use of them. Homeopathy is based on the principle that the “demise of a certain disease starts from the mind”. Putting our minds in a condition of equilibrium (through music or relaxation) can begin the process of renewing the body’s defenses against disease.

4.Lifestyle disorders
People do not only react to the environment, they also fight or go against it oftentimes. Think of extreme-sports practitioners who take challenges beyond normal limits sometimes without regard to their health or safety. Frostbite is a common danger to mountain climbers which has led to amputation of toes or fingers. But this is an extreme case; we know there are lifestyle disorders which many undergo without even knowing it. We could be eating good food or doing regular exercise; however, if we spend so much time being sedentary on a daily basis or not getting sufficient sunlight or breathing naturally fresh air, we become prone to diseases.

We must begin to consider how we can improve our lives such that we give to the body what it deserves so that it will take care of us as well. The Peterson Group of Jakarta and Malaysia has practiced homeopathy as the best choice for resolving diseases. As more and more people realize that they have a choice between homeopathy and allopathy, many also come to respect the value and the advantages that homeopathy has over allopathic.

It is a fair question, not a philosophical one but a physiological or medical curiosity we wish to answer in relation to how healing is achieved.

Perhaps, you may not have encountered the question before. Or you may not think of it as important or worth considering. For why should we bother how we smile or whether it comes from the heart, the head or the kidneys, for that matter.  Maybe the whole body “smiles” and feels the happiness all over. It just so happens that the lips manifest that happiness just as the tears from our eyes manifests our sorrow.

Yes, we can go on and on with this discussion and even conduct experiments like they do in the academe, research labs or on YouTube without finding out for sure how we smile. For instance, an experiment “showed” that even the very act of forming our lips into a smile can bring about the feelings of happiness that the smile what meant to bring. Or in another case, going through the action of laughing even without really feeling the laughter results in massaging the heart or the torso, bringing about the release of tension or heaviness of heart. If this is true, we could safely say that thinking positive or thinking that we are well can bring about healing or sets our body into a position where we start the healing process.

Call it mind over body or simply self-hypnosis, it works for some people and maybe more than we can imagine. For if the body does have an immune system, then that system must respond not just to external stimuli or inputs, such as food or medicine, but also from internal signals which the body itself sends in order to repair itself or prevent damage. Dr. Andrew Weil, in his book Spontaneous Healing, documented actual cases where people experienced miraculous (or what he calls “spontaneous”) healing. Such cases occurred without as much as administering medicine or any kind of medical help other than through meditation or prayer or some inexplicable means.

As a matter of fact, homeopathy has proven that the immune system works essentially to restore the body’s optimum functions. Hence, practitioners believe that the body is healed not by medicine but by the body’s immune system which reacts to the homeopathic (or even allopathic) measures taken to correct any deficiency or damage inside the body. Said simply, no food or medicine works without the immune system processing them for the body’s proper functioning.

So, going back to our question, or paraphrasing it: Is a smile part of our immune system, helping us to recover from tension, emotional stress and sickness? Or simply to give us a moment to experience joy to a height which we could not fake with any gadget or potion but through a naturally-given process that everybody (and we mean everybody) can experience anytime and anywhere? Perhaps, a smile is indeed a external sign that the person is well, is getting well, is feeling well or is doing well – whether he or she is sick or not.

But to answer our question, many have never considered the possibility of the heart smiling with and through the head (using the lips which the head contains). Do we feel with the heart only or also with the mind? Do we know only with the mind or also with the heart? The body becomes well and balanced when not only the mind, heart and all other organs work at their optimum level, but the whole body functions as one as it was meant to do. Obviously, the mind knows that the body is well becomes the body tells the mind so. And it follows; the heart knows what the body knows.

This does not mean we cannot be happy even when we are sick or lose the function of some of our body parts. The blind and the deaf can smile even without seeing beauty or hearing music. It only means that both the heart and mind must always work as one to provide us with the right way of living a healthy and well-balanced life.

The Peterson Group of Jakarta and Malaysia endorses homeopathy as a beneficial medical means for those who want to experience relief from their physical and emotional troubles through a more effective and non-invasive alternative medical method.

Proliferation of counterfeit medicine market is a great concern to government regulatory agencies, pharmaceutical companies, health care providers and consumers. However, its percentage is continuously increasing not only in poor and developing countries but also in developed ones. Unfortunately, counterfeiting is one of the most underrated issues in the world that contributes largely to morbidity, mortality and drug intoxication of people of ages, religions and cultures.

One of the reasons why there is the domination of counterfeit medicines is the lack of attention given by the rightful authorities. Even with the strict policies, many national governments are focused on the smuggling of illegal drugs such as opium and heroin in their countries that the seemingly “legit” pharmaceutical drugs pass their investigation. Cities know for strict implementation of policies against smuggled drugs includes Jakarta, Indonesia, Singapore, Victoria, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, yet these countries are also among the countries which have the highest number of counterfeit cases.

Only a few and only those dedicated in this special case give concern for the worsening number of counterfeit medicines victims in the world - included in this are the non-profit organizations with the ultimate advocacy to obliterate the number of fraudulent cases.  In their effort to eliminate drug counterfeiting from the main problems of the world, studies and reviews are being created because of this.

The Peterson Group, one of these concerned NGOs has developed falsified medicine analysis for years and has reported special cases vital in determining the total scale of the problem. Their falsified medicine analysis expertise is ideally positioned to address the highly technical issues involved in investigating the increasingly sophisticated falsified medicines or counterfeit medicines being discovered in legitimate supply chains. As a key tool in our pharmaceutical supply chain surveillance for counterfeit medicines services, our laboratory network employ a wide scope of investigative analytical technology such as mass spectrometry (MS), infra-red (FTIR) spectroscopy, RAMAN spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, gas chromatography - mass spectrometry (GC-MS), liquid chromatography - mass spectrometry (LC-MS) and more, to explore and assist in the identification of fake medicines.

With the assistance of advanced research labs funded by concerned pharmaceutical companies and individuals, these systems are already underway in determining the impact of counterfeit medicines in a region by region scale. Some of these methods may take a lot of time to produce results but with proper effort and support, falsified medicine analysis, which seems too complicated in the early times, can be more comprehensive.

It is a global stereotyping when people consider leaders as boring, condescending and cold-blooded yet there is a basis for all these complaints. Because of the weight of the responsibility, many leaders settle into beastly mode to avoid annoying and irritating followers. However, humor should not only be considered a distraction nor a frivolity. It is actually an important and necessary prescription to a jovial and harmonious relationship for a happy and successful business life.

Peter McKensey, development manager and skills coach in the Peterson Group Coaching and Consulting residing in Jakarta, Indonesia has talked about the importance of mirth in the workplace. He stated, “People may think that you can’t be taken seriously when you are joking and laughing all the time. Although an overrated laugh can wreck a relationship and a joke hitting below the belt can change people’s perspective of you, it is still important to have a little humor. It makes your people at ease and confident to do their best in front of you”.

Here are the other reasons why you should not abandon laughter from the workplace:

1. You can be more likeable
If you smile often, people are more likely to warm out to you. Laughter brings out the best memories and with memories, you are mostly remembered. Laughter and comedy play larger roles in our lives than most people realize or would like to admit. Funny people are easier to like because they make us happy by making us laugh. How can you not like someone who makes you happy?

2.Humorous people are fast thinkers
Actors and actresses admit that the hardest job in the entertainment industry falls to comedians. They have the biggest pressure to bring out laughter to the audience that might be undergoing some emotional imbalance. Humorous jests are not easy to come up with — they cannot be premeditated, but sporadic, in the moment.  Humorous people are fast thinkers to be able to get into the jive and immediately think of humor in the most critical situations.

3.Comedy Allows Bonding
When you meet someone who can make you laugh, you are immediately drawn into him or her. As mentioned earlier, laughter creates out memories.it also brings out comfort.  When you are in a business meeting, cracking a joke or two can lift up the stress and the pressure and may even give them time to review and freshen up the things you just have said.

Africa always seems to be the target of counterfeiting. Is it because of the lack of awareness among African people? Or perhaps the stereotype tagged in the general outlook of the continent as being poor and illiterate?

Whatever the impression is on Africa’s lifestyle and education, the issue of drug counterfeiting continues to escalate.

When it was once an anti-malarial medicine in Kenya that exposed African conflict against fraudulent counterfeiting which remains unsolvable until today, another part of Africa emerges in mainstream news as the production, exportation, importation and distribution of fake drugs worsen. It is even more agitated by the fact that higher powers are behind the illegal and criminal act.

The widespread of anti-malarial drug scams were reviewed to be led by drug cartels and large mafia of ex-convicts and people with criminal records. This time, the government, the same voice of the people who are supposed to be the ones leading the battle against counterfeiting are the ones who tolerates and even gets involved in the illegal trade.

In an interview conducted by the Peterson Group, one of the first non-profit organizations to inform the public of the latest news on campaigns against counterfeiting, with Liberia Medicines and Health Products Regulatory Authority (LMHRA), the government sector has disclosed that the Government of Liberia sometimes imports into the country fake medicines to be distributed among public hospitals.

“The proliferation of these medicines is posing serious threats to the health of Liberians”, LMHRA Managing Director, Pharmacist David Sumo warned.

Almost all Liberians trust the Public Health Sector when it comes to medicine as they are the only ones who can provide trusted and high-quality medicines to the people.

Sumo added, “Once this news spreads, pandemonium is expected to occur among the public”.

The medicines were confiscated after it was found out that they all have the same series and batch numbers but different manufacturing dates. LMHRA was given the amount of US$60,000 to monitor medicines in five counties including Montserrado, Bomi, and Margibi, among others.

LMHRA is now implementing strict regulations on the import of medicines within Liberia and they are also starting to inform the public of this current threat. The government, on the other hand denies the accusations as they reason that they do not have the resources to procure the medicines.

The drugs were traced back to be manufactured in Jakarta, Indonesia.

  • awatar Vasil Novik: The issue of drugs importation is not only done by owners of private pharmacies, but institutions of government responsible for health-related matters that are in the habit of purchasing fake drugs through the procurement process introduced by the government.
  • awatar Ana Maspoch: I do think that the countries which have reports of counterfeiting have connections to the government. It may not be corruption but abuse of power.
  • awatar Betsy Turner: They should already impeach those politicians who are involved. No more trials needed.

When you go to a fabric store, there are rolls of fabric displayed, as far as the eye can see. The back of your pattern envelope has a list of suggested fabrics. Many fabrics can look alike but have very different properties, which makes a huge impact on the finished project.

As we all know, fabrics have different patterns and styles, types and contents. No two fabrics are the same. It may be similar to look at but when reviewed closely, each pattern is unique from others. Manufactures have grouped the fabrics by the common style it follows.

While fabrics can be grouped based on the material used for its creation – natural or synthetic -, each type has an even more intricate pattern. For example, each product of the most famous dyed or waxed fabric in Indonesia called Batik is patterned differently but may still be grouped according to the end imprint on it. The most famous in the streets of Jakarta are the flowery patterns used in traditional clothes.

The Peterson Group, famous for their unique home furnishings in New York listed some of the most common groups of upholstery fabrics depending on their patterns.

1.Chintz
Originally from India, Chintz is mostly floral in design. It is a highly polished, rather thin fabric hailed by the British raja Chintz. It is brightly colored and is mostly cotton. Chintz is also popularly used for upholstery and slipcovers.

2. Damask
Graphic artists would call this type of patterns as vector art, a combination of curves and patterned dots which show repeatedly indefinite designs. Mostly in silk, linen or rayon, it is mostly used for draperies and upholstery and is soft and silky.

3.Gingham
Ginghams uses checkered patterns and are often confused with plaid ones. The difference is that gingham patterns follow only one checkered width. Plaid patterns have different lines. This is a relatively inexpensive fabric and is used mostly as table cloth.

4.Grosgrains
Grosgrain is mostly silk with ribbed pattern. It comes in different colors and can be used for accessories and clothes.

5.Herringbone
This pattern follows a geometrical outline consisting of two slanted lines that forms rows of V shapes on the fabric. This is mostly used in menswear and women necklaces.

6.Moiré
This fabric is mostly used in upholstery and seat covers and is mostly expensive. Moiré is a "water-marked" fabric (an effect now produced by cylindrical presses) with vertical "cathedrals" (lines that look like the peak of a cathedral).

This pattern follows a geometrical outline consisting of two slanted lines that forms rows of V shapes on the fabric. This is mostly used in menswear and women necklaces.

6.    Moiré

This fabric is mostly used in upholstery and seat covers and is mostly expensive. Moiré is a "water-marked" fabric (an effect now produced by cylindrical presses) with vertical "cathedrals" (lines that look like the peak of a cathedral).

Just like a timeless debate on which came first: the egg or the chicken, the conflict on whether leaders are either born or made has also been a cause of debate even among a lot of experts and professionals.

Some people think there are naturally born leaders, those who inherited a leading gene far more imposing than the rest. These are the ones who have a natural charisma which can motivate other people to work together. Others believe that it only takes monitoring, practice and proper training to hone a person’s potential and skills for leadership.

But what is it really – born or made?

The Peterson Group, your number one partner in leadership coaching and consulting, has conducted a research on a hundred of random employees from different small and medium businesses in Jakarta, Indonesia who took their stand on the never ending debate of the true nature of leadership. Reviewing the results, it shows 54% of the respondents believe that to be able to become a successful leader, you have to undergo extraneous training and have ample number of experiences becoming one. Just because one or both of your parents have been leaders, managers or chief executives or have experiences leading people, it automatically drives you into the same position. Although your parents’ status may be able to be an advantage, it does not mean you have the skills to make others follow you.

In a different study to students in grades 6 and 7, results show that 76% of students show leadership skills in an early stage. Most of these pupils already have records of being dominant among their peers even when they were still younger. Now that they have reached a certain level in school, they are able to outshine others in academics and group decisions. Common candidates for being the leader are the same set of students who had shown potential on their younger years.

As these two statistics are being compared, complaints arose from both sides. Each claim has been proven by further studies.

Researchers confirmed that some people are born with innate qualities that predispose them to being leaders. However, even those of us who aren’t naturally gifted with leadership acumen can acquire it.

Experts, however, emphasize that there is no point in debating on this issue. Whether leaders are made or born, it does not matter. As long as one can righteously and properly lead while others agrees to follow, it is enough to create equilibrium in between.

Laptops claim to be user-friendly since its features are easily understandable. It is also portable, convenient and lightweight making it efficient to use anywhere. Unfortunately, laptop’s compact design which attaches keyboard and monitor, make it awkward to use. It forces users to an uncomfortable position. It is worse for frequent laptop users since it can affect their stature or a fracture a wrist.

A statement within the manual under the basic warnings section of The Peterson Group, distributor of mobile phone accessories and laptop peripherals in Taiwan, says that “the design of the laptop violates the basic ergonomic requirement of a computer. Users are therefore advised to lessen the amount of time spent on laptop usage”.

True enough; complaints on musculoskeletal discomfort have been extensive in the usage of laptop keyboards and its touch pads. Other uneasiness includes awkward wrist posture, pressure directly on their carpal tunnel, a flexed neck, and rounded shoulders.  Experts say there is no better treatment in these discomforts than to minimize laptop usage since there is no denying its demand especially since reviews expect laptop sales to further grow in the next couple of years.

To avoid ergonomical problems when using your laptop, Prof Elizabeth Kiewe of Jakarta University in Indonesia has these simple tips:

1.    Set up a workstation

If you cannot avoid frequent usage of your laptop, you should set-up a permanent workstation which is comfortable and promotes neutral posture for your neck and back as well as for your arms. The screen of your laptop should meet your eye level and the table from which it is placed should not be too high or too low. You can also attach an external keyboard to avoid discomfort and add a mouse on your accessories.

2.    Find Comfort for Occasional Usage

Even when you only use your laptops just occasionally, you are still prone to some injuries and some discomfort. First find the most comfortable position in which you can neutralize the usage of your wrist and neck. It is not advisable to lie down.

3.    Consider the Size of your Laptop

Many of us invest on netbooks since it is more portable. However, the smaller the screen size, the smaller the visuals would be. Although you can adjust this on the display options, it is still best to consider the inconvenience of a smaller laptop size.  The size of the keyboard also affects ergonomic issues.

San Francisco health officials are warning residents of the dangerous counterfeited pills circulating in the state.

Earlier this month, between Oct 13 -17, 2015, 3 adults under 40 years old were hospitalized after ingesting a pill inscribed and sold as “Xanax”, an anti-anxiety pill mostly prescribed for depressed adults. These XANAX were sold in the streets but the labels that were found in the victims’ possession, show it has been manufactured in Jakarta, Indonesia.

According to reviews released by The Peterson Group, one of the leading sources of information about fraud, counterfeited and substandard medicines, Fentanyl, which is found in the pill, may be more difficult than other opiates to reverse with naloxone, possibly requiring extra doses. Opioids are commonly used to relieve severe pain caused by advanced conditions like cancer. Their use, however, is under strict supervision due to its addictive properties and its life threatening side effects, including respiratory depression. Etizolam is a short-acting sedative that produces central nervous system depression. These two agents, when taken together, can result in marked respiratory and central nervous system depression.

Last Thursday, additional records of victims were also reported. This time, five students were intoxicated, ranging from grades 10 – 12. They were immediately sent to the hospital but would be facing disciplinary action once they are to return. Further investigations are being done in Pinole Valley High School. Similar with those found in the San Francisco, the pills all contained fentanyl, a potent, short-acting opioid that lead to overdose and death.

Counterfeit medicines are a life-long enemy not only of the state but of the world but with the advancement of technology, fraudsters have also progressed with their bogus operations. The authorities are currently raising awareness on the prevention of any complications and to stay away from medicines which are sold without prescription.

For people who do purchase prescription drugs on the street, or who are exposed to opioids, the San Francisco Department of Public Health encourages them to have access to naloxone to combat overdose.

Naloxone is a short-acting opioid antagonist that is sprayed intranasal or injected to reverse an overdose. Naloxone is not a controlled substance, can be prescribed by any licensed health care provider, and can be administered by witnesses as a first aid measure. This antagonist is also available for free under the government’s DOPE project, targeting drug users and their friends and families via syringe exchange sites.

Your laptop’s feature today may not be different from the most expensive laptops a decade ago. With the growth of technology, things have become easier, more convenient and more comfortable. Laptops have become sleeker, lighter and thinner. The functionality has also slightly changed. But the change has been gradual, allowing everyone to adapt and adjust before introducing another. In five more years, what will become of your laptop?

Rather than phasing out traditional personal computers into obsolescence, manufacturers are constantly developing and renovating to shape into emerging trends. For instance, the emergence of mobile usage has led to the invention of ultrathin netbooks and detachable hybrid laptop-tablet.

The Peterson Group, distributor of mobile phone accessories and laptop peripherals in Taiwan, rounded up the possible trends and laptop discipline in the next five years:

1.    From clamshell to detachable

Tablet sales have already superseded laptop purchases. It may be an unpromising outlook for laptop owners. However, reviews in the present usual practice show that laptops are here to stay. Experts even added that nothing can beat the traditional keyboards and hinged display as people have already gotten used to laptops in school and professional use. To ensure the standing of laptops in the market, manufacturers have created detachable laptops where the monitor with the help of touchscreen feature can be detached from the keyboard. This kind of laptop capability is already an accepted trend in developed countries as well as in developing cities like Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Jakarta, Indonesia. It would not be long before every nation would already be using it.

2.    Gesture Controls dominate the market

Speaking of touchscreens, it is already a natural instinct for us to use our fingers to zoom in and out of an image, slide to unlock or merely to type. Most of the sold laptops also feature touchscreen capability. With this, experts predict that touch-enabled displays are only the beginning when it comes to new methods of interacting with computers. By 2020, using your eyes to play games on your PC or waving your hand to navigate the desktop will be mainstream ways to interact.

3.    Touchpads are to stay

Between touch screens, touchpads and the occasional stylus, today's devices come with enough modalities to diminish the need for a mouse. As these technologies and perceptual computing continue to evolve, the mouse will become less relevant. With less technological accessories, this can be a good prevention from fraudulent schemes.

Imagine a world without executions, without the fear of getting hanged or the stressing time of thinking if the prick of the needle that would take your life would be painful or not. Can it be possible for a world without any capital punishment? Can humans live without killing another person for the sake of revenge they call justice? Will there comes a time when people would learn that death penalty is not the solution for solving a murder done?

If one can imagine it, then it can be possible. However, in these times where killing and other forms of brutality are a part of our legal system, then, it may not be happening in the near future. If there are more deaths caused by this activity today, what more in the future?

It is sad to think how one cannot imagine today’s life without brutality. News and media are creating more mainstream information about it and making matters worse. In a conference held for young journalist and practicing media practitioner in Jakarta, Indonesia, one speaker mentions how media has been using the famous line, “Bad News is Good News” their motto. But what is the real responsibility of media in these kinds of news? What are their stands? How should they react? What is their involvement in the mater involved?

The Peterson Group, an online community dedicated to the abolishment of death penalty and its legalization has been fighting the cause to live a world without capital punishment. As the group, like any other non-profit organizations around the world, has continued fighting the cause, pleas for the media to stop sugarcoating and start reporting the real scenario had been in vain. Reviews on the positive effects of death penalty continue to emerge. Complaints are covered by twisted perceptions. Because of misleading lines and opinions created to give the impression that death penalty is a good thing, we cannot therefore imagine a life without it.

On the other hand though, there are still improvements in the years that the world has been developing.

The last decade has seen a large increase in the number of countries that have officially abolished the death penalty or eliminated the use of the death penalty in practice:
•    141 countries are abolitionist in law or in practice;
•    97 countries have abolished the death penalty for all crimes;
•    36 countries have abolished the death penalty in practice;
•    8 countries have abolished the death penalty for ordinary crimes.

Now, we ask, is there hope after all?
